Ferrari Red 1990 Volkswagen Cabriolet Complete restoration

Well, I wanted to do something different and this car was just too tempting.

This is a 1990 VW Cabriolet restoration blog.

We completely changed the color of this car, from Candy red to Screaming Ferrari Red
cliff notes:

from this

thru this:

to this:

this is how I found her (hit in the front, dents, scratches, etc..)

trashed interior

first thing to do was to measure the frame to access the damage

we cut off the radiator support

in the meantime, I do complete tune up, everything new including the water pump, A/C compressor, every gasket, wire, belt, hose, etc..

new radiator support goes in

I change the suspension to H&R springs, Koni adjustable shocks, new bushings, new control arms, new ball joints, new cross drilled rotors, new pads, new brake hoses, new driveshafts, new boots, etc…

sadly the rest of the car still looks like crap

I found BBS RMs with Kodiak lips, mounted new tires on them, looks nice !

the interior gets re-upholstered in 2 tone, white leather with black veloure

more work on the body

we find rust under the winshield

fixed

more damage and rust in the back

working on the body parts

next… more nightmare !every body panels comes off

hello naked Rabbit

super slick, Fred Flinstone style, block seat

painting the parts

the most anticipating day comes – time to paint the car

we were worried about the color not being bright enough, but it came out beautiful !

just out of the spray booth

wet sanding and buffing

trying to put the puzzle together!

sometimes it takes 3 guys to do it ..

Finishing touches

almost done…. almost

here is one pic the garage

more pics of the finished car

Where can I get the interior re-upholstered? I’m at Columbus OH and haven’t been able to find someone that does that or at least some seat cover that fits. How much would it cost to re-upholster the interiors?

Also, where can I get a top. Someone broke into out car and cut it with a knife, was so mad because the doors were unlocked. But since them I’m trying to find one and not sure were to look at.

    Awesome restoration by the way
I would like to see my cabrio just like that 😀 which is also a 1990
    Thanks!

I loved the way the restoration turned out. I have a 1983 golf gti and what you guys have done inspired me to get going on my own…
